It's funny you should mention that: in the ad, they give the EPA estimate and then say that the actual highway mileage will probably be lower. A Datsun ad from the same era said the same thing. I wonder if the EPA estimated notoriously highly back then.

ReplyDeleteOverstating realistic mileage. They've changed the way they figure it, but it's still laboratory conditions.
So why don't they--oh, I don't know--like, actually take one out on the road and burn through a couple of tanks of gas?

ReplyDeleteThat wouldn't be fair. Some cars would come out better because of weather and traffic conditions. Has to be laboratory for fairness.
